Director of Events.

 
 

The Director of Events designs and produces community events to fulfill the mission and vision of Women’s March Oakland (WMO). Like all WMO directors, this is an unpaid volunteer position.

Responsibilities

  • Create and oversee the 3rd annual Women’s March Oakland (January 2019)
    • Operations:
      • Act as onsite coordinator and manage multifunctional team of volunteers leading up to and on the day of the march
      • Vet and hire march vendors
      • Work with Director of Operations, City of Oakland, Oakland PD and Fire Department, Parks and Recreation, insurance broker and other relevant parties to ensure insurance, contracts and permits are secured
      • Manage Medical and Safety teams to create and execute safety plan
      • Manage and update march budget and expense tracking
    • Programing:
      • Work with Rally Committee to vet and engage speakers
      • Work with Director of Outreach to plan and produce Call to Action Alley
      • Work with Youth Liaison to plan and produce youth experience
    • Accessibility:
      • Work with Accessibility Liaison to ensure march is fully accessible, including hiring ASL interpreters
    • Marketing:
      • Act as the face of the march and attend interviews with local media
      • Work with Director of Marketing to coordinate with PR Lead, review editorial calendar, and finalize flyers and other marketing materials
    • Outreach:
      • Work with Director of Outreach to establish partnerships with mission-aligned organizations and ensure marginalized communities are included
  • Execute other special events throughout the year
  • Create and oversee monthly meetups

Skills and experience

  • Project management, event production/logistics, and budgeting experience required
  • Self-starter who can work with a close-knit team to meet ambitious goals on tight timeframes
  • Connections to East Bay community organizations a plus
  • At ease using G Suite, Slack, Microsoft Office and social media

Time commitment

  • Attend weekly Director meetings (weekday evening)
  • Attend partner events as able (weekday evenings / weekends)
  • Hours range from 5 to 20 hours per week; hours increase as the march approaches
